Well I'm sort of outsider too, hopping over from incgamers and all. I don't see why people here wouldn't welcome you if they took me in just like that .

UPDATE: http://nemesis-of-the-gods.deviantar...llery/27491109

Soooo, I think that I might be done with it.... All else that I can think to do is to scan it in better cause it kinda scanned crooked, and maybe do something about the quality of the scan. But otherwise I think that I am finished!! I added a thin border to it today and just touched up a few things about it. For some reason my scanner was set to scan in the picture darker yesterday, so it looks a bit more natural now to how it looks in person now...besides crappy scan quality. I think that I might need to touch up the light rays too... But yeah, so, finished?!! Finally?!!! haha XD

Marsh: Ahh alrighty. Also, I absolutely love that lace on Gwen's dress!! And I agree with Ninja here, it might just be the angle of her hand that is making things look a bit off.

Ninja: Thank you =] -Hmm, maybe it is the glasses thing, because I don't believe that it looks like snow >.> I've tweaked with that frozen water way too much to want to try to go back and do it again haha.

GeminiJuSa: It's true! I really love how you sing.
Psh, kick that troll in the face. It's a really cool piece, it has a lot of creativity, and I really do think that you did a nice job at drawing everything. The snow looks very realistic, the sky with the moon, stars and clouds looks great. The bone fiends are the cutest things ever, and you gave the Necromancer a personality that gives the whole picture a sort of mood, and it really goes nice together. (plus you did a fantastic job on her armor) People always judge art on how well someone can draw a light-bulb...or whatever, ya know. Like, it's not always about how great you can draw something because I can tell you that even the people with the most amazing technical drawing skills in the world can suck just because they don't have creativity and it makes their work, while it's still really awesome sure, I mean it IS hard to draw something exactly how it's seen; but when there's nothing else to it but that REALLY GREAT realistic looking, photograph quality light-bulb, then it's no fun to look at for very long. It's cool when people can make that light-bulb exploding and shards of glass going everywhere and sparks flying... I'm not saying that every drawing like that is bad though either, in the end it really comes down to personal preference. Bah you get where I am going with this? Ignore people who bash your art, grow stronger from it. Use it as a motivation to do even better and make that person say "Wow that's the best drawing in the world!" You know?
I've dealt with my fair share of people telling me that my art isn't very good, especially this past week, and I've had a lot of support about it and yes it does still hurt you to hear someone say that about something that you so dearly worked on for many hours, but remember that that's only one person's opinion! Like with my art teacher, I have just kind of been ignoring his comments this week ever since he started telling me that my art is boring since it's mainly all pencil work. I was VERY upset, but now I kind of see it as that's one out of how many people's opinions in the world? Don't get too down about it and I totally understand why you would be though. That's all I am trying to say.

I hope that helps your self-confidence in your picture a bit more. Hopefully I didn't just sound like a huge [email protected]@$$ heh.

Sorry for typing sooooo much! I felt the need to say that, cause it's totally not cool when people talk bad about other people's art, critique and point out flaws to make better; yes of course! But to be rude about it, is just lame.

Tommy's: Contrast for the win!! Haha, yeah I love contrast. It's true, you wouldn't really think about it at first but it does make such a difference! Anyways, I love how your elves look, their facial expressions are so funny, and I adore those mountains, they look epically awesome.

Verene: Wow! Someone's a busy worker elf this year
Hah, that's cool though that you are doing all of that. I do hope that you get some time to work on your piece though, you have a really nice idea!

Do I type the most here? I feel like I do...

Wellll, I hope you all didn't die from reading some, if not all of this!!!

Haha, it's no problem. I felt weird just jumping in at first as well, but everyone here is so kind and helpful that things should start to feel fine for you pretty soon despite all the outside jibber jabber. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us! ^_^

Nemesis-of-the-Gods: I could find comfort in the fact that the little troll can't even draw a stick figure :P It doesn't get me down, but it does however affect how happy I am about a picture. Usually I start to dislike them after a week then I find them ok after a year or so. Telling me my drawing suck is like adding gasoline to the fire; I want to draw something better and slap it in the face. The troll wants me to draw something better because it thinks I'm super awesome with leet drawing skills, but no matter what I draw, it's ugly. It's the same when I sing: "No! Sing properly instead! you're much better than that!". I find it ironic.

As everyone has commented in the thread already; your art teacher sucks and should know that pencil art is an entire genre in itself! Just because it doesn't suit your art teachers taste, it doesn't mean it's bad. It's like saying Claude Monet sucked because he didn't paint lines in his paintings. >_< VERY unprofessional of your teacher!

Thank you for saying so many nice thing of my drawing ^^ It brightened my night up.

Psh! We're always welcoming of new artists Hello and welcome!

Nemesis - looks nice! I can't really think of anything to improve with it, it does look very good and I like it a lot ^^ And yes, I shall be a bit busy, but I'll make sure to make time for my entry XD I have one hat just about finished (just need to embroider the face on) and most of the other stuff I have to do should be pretty easy ^^

Uggh… sorry, busy week so haven't had a chance to stop by and post Looks like my Dec 31st deadline's been lifted so I'm planning on taking the last week in December off for vacay… hopefully I can come up with something during that time for a last minute entry…

Anyway, working backwards…. sorry for missing some people D:

@Verene, I missed the boat! What are you working on there? Last I read you were working on the vector piece. You knitted such a cute little hat I love the little bow!

@ Gemini: lol, your video and the little written comments were so awesome! I love your accent and it was so cool watching your piece over time! rofl, just got to your MOAR post now XD

@nemesis: that looks really great! You have so much detail in there! I can't imagine doing that without smudging it if it was me D:

@Tommy: lol, you and contrast But yeah, the elf (on the right in the comparison shots) looks really great! Just noticed the detailing on the top left of that close-up image. Is that a special brush you used? That looks like real paint scraped against a canvas!

@Marsh: aww! I love how you drew Gwen in her puffy dress and her awesome lace! Did you make a special brush for that?

@satomz: looking forward to hearing your piece! I'm terrible at reading fast high notes though D:

@koreena: ooh, nice pillow! looks comfy

@Magik: WOW! She's gorgeous! I love her crown and the design you used for the front part! That polar bear is too cute

@zidane: that's great! I can't believe that only took you 4.5 hrs. Poor mouse though, maybe we can pretend he pulled a thorn out of the charr's paw and so he gave the mouse a present as thanks?

Hahaha, and yes its a custo brush. Or possibly 2. Can't really remember, I create my own brushes or download them from dA, and sometimes I combine them. But yes, its custo

Thistle - I'm still doing the vector piece! I just have to put it aside for a few days so I can work on Christmas gifts; I'm knitting Hello Kitty hats for my boyfriend's little sister, and apparently both of my sisters (decided to make one for my 9 year old sister, posted the pattern on facebook, and my 18 year old sister went "OMG I WANT ONE PLEASE" XD) Thanks!

If I have enough time and leftover yarn I might figure out a pattern for a Freezie hat, though.

@Spark welcome

@Nemesis it looks really great. Only thing i can say is that you can adjust levels in photoshop after you make final scan to make it look even better (if you have ps that is )

@Verene that hat is soooo cute :**********

and heres mine... added textures, background, more hair (yay), made polar bear more puffy, adjusted the colors, wings, tiara, fingers ...

now i only need to make some small changes to the background, and add skin texture :X

Looks great Magik. Really like the look of the trees in the background. And that crown came out wonderful! Just 2 things I would like to say that might improve your piece:

1. The snow. Small cloud, no wind? Because there is no snow in front of her

2. I would put the wing a little bit to the right or to the left. Because I was like, 'huh why the hell did she give that polar bear a tail' Because they have quite similar colours and their edge has the same direction they look to be the same. I didnt notice the higher parts of the wing, because the face and the polar pull the most of the attention. Just a tiny bit removed of the wing would be better I think.

1, yes, i turned down layer with snow in front of her, so not to distract me too much when i need to add details on her skin.

and 2. oh ouch nice tail XD will fix it, thanks for pointing that out

@Nemesis: Very Wintersday-esque! The only suggestion I have would be to consider adding a little more detail to Melandru, as she looks a little plain compared to everything else, but of course, it's your call, and I'm no artist.

@Eastern Magik: I'm impressed with the amount of detail you've put into that! To me, though, the blue tint on her skin near her elbow almost looks like a bruise to me (maybe it's slightly too dark?).

@Marshmallow: Hehe, cute is all I have to say.

@Satomz: Looking forward to hearing it!

@Tommy's: The contrast definitely helped. Looking good!

As for my progress, I've finished the piano part, which you can listen to here: http://www.4shared.com/audio/Wg6M2nnx/WDPIANO.html

It begins with the GW2 sylvari theme, then transitions to a GW2 charr theme/"Carol of the Bells" segment. Then GW2 asura theme/CoB segment; then GW2 norn theme/CoB segment; then finally, the human segment, which is the GW2 human theme rearranged to sound like Christmas music you'd hear at a church.

I've just gotta add the other instrument(s). Definitely have to add the strings, but I'm still considering the plucked piano.

Any suggestions on how the overall arrangement sounds?

Ok more progress from my side again.
* Refined the mountains (a lot )
* Adjusted colour of the sky to a bit more blue and a bit lighter
* Made the Elfs a bit brighter
* Lightened the base of the whats to become snowman
* Added (verys strong) Candy Cane ladder
* Repositioned the characters working on the snowman.
* Made the issues I had with the ground bigger

Think this might be(come) my biggest and most time consuming piece, so really really hope it will get rewarded this year. So every suggestion is welcome to improve it!
